Where There’s Smoke, There’s Fyah!

Where There’s Smoke, There’s Fyah!

Thursday, August 24th in Boulder, Colorado was on Fyah!

Not because the air was filled with smoke from North West wildfires, but because Ziggy Marley came through on the US Rebellion Rises Tour!

Chautauqua Auditorium in Boulder sits on top of a hill with a gorgeous mountainous backdrop. It was filled to capacity with over 1,300 inside. There were many people sitting outside on the grass with coolers and blankets , just so they could hear Ziggy perform. It was a sold out show, so although they could not see Ziggy, they indeed heard!

Ziggy’s shows are not like your typical reggae show. His fans range from age 8 to age 88 and everything in between. Whenever I go to a Ziggy Marley show, it hits me that the majority of the people there are older (like me ūüôā and are Bob fans from way back in the day. Now, here we are, being mesmerized by Bob’s first born son.Island Stage Magazine- Ziggy Marley

Ziggy’s message is always about Love and Oneness (Harambee) like in the song “The Storm is Coming (Are You Ready)” the 2nd track on the new album, Rebellion Rises. Harambee means “all pull together” in Swahili.

But, Ziggy’s music is also all about the system, or what I call the “Shitstem”, and the fake leaders who run it. “See Dem Fake Leaders, in the place of power they sit, from religion to politics, riding a wave of fear, starting fires, they don’t care, making enemies out of friends, killing thousands, hundreds and tens” ¬†See Dem Fake Leaders track 1 Rebellion Rises.

I can tell you that Ziggy opened the show with two of my favorite songs from Rebellion Rises ¬†I Will Be Glad” and “See Dem Fake Leaders” the rest of the set list was:

————-

 WORLD REVOLUTION

 CIRCLE OF PEACE

 DON’T WANNA LIVE ON MARS

 JUSTICE

 GET UP STAND UP

 HIGH ON LIFE

 TRUE TO MYSELF

 LOVE IS MY RELIGION

 BEACH IN HAWAII

IS THIS LOVE

 WILD AND FREE

WE ARE THE PEOPLE

It really did seem that the crowd was mesmerized. It took the first four songs for them to get up and start dancing at their seats. Keep in mind, this venue had assigned seating and not a general admission or standing room only show. The children however were front and center! Many stood right in front of the stage and Ziggy acknowledged them , “Yes Children” with that gorgeous smile of his.

Ziggy played for a solid two hours (no opening act) and came out for an encore performance to the tune of three more songs. The crowd tried very hard to get a second encore performance, and since the venue had not yet turned the lights on, hey can you blame us?  We were trying to hear as much as possible from our beloved Ziggy Marley!!

Encore tunes:

CHANGE YOUR WORLD

COMING IN FROM THE COLD

 LOOK WHO’S DANCING

Well, the venue finally did turn on those lights and the people realized it was time to go. As they were exiting the venue, I couldn’t help but notice the looks of “All is Right With The World” at least on this night.
