Celebrating Africa at Rototom Sunsplash 2017

Sista Irie, reggae photojournalist, Island Stage Magazine

“Celebrating Africa” reflected a colorful, educational and spiritually
filled week  during the  24th annual Rototom Sunsplash. Africa was ever
present on the Lion Stage, the African Village and the Main stage, as well
as the deliciously aromatic food booths, visual art graphics throughout
the grounds, Reggae University panels, clothing and gift vendors, even
Rototom rolling papers! The festival grounds are massive, a reggae city
with every inch carefully designed and made into entertainment and
comfort. One of the most interesting traditional aspects of the festival
is a large group of festival goers who beat the rhythm of the drum around
8 p.m. to gather the crowds and take them to the mainstage for that nights
main stage performances.
