Tell our readers a bit about yourself
My name is Iza. I am an artist…
I was born in Poland, when I was 11 years old my family and I moved to Germany.
I always wanted to be a singer since I was little. When I was 16 years old I started to sing. I basically taught myself to sing 😉
In High School I started to sing for the first time in front of a large audience…!
Afterwards I got a lot of support from family and friends I then started to write my own songs.
I have also worked with other Artists.
8 Months ago I moved to New York where I continue to work on my songs.
How would you describe your music?
My songs always have a message in it. It has positive vibes!!! I also try to give people different perspective of seeing the world and the many things that life brings.
How did you get started in music?
I always wanted to be a singer but I always thought that I was not good enough to make music so I began to teach myself. I started to sing pretty late…I wasn’t one of those super talented kids that got pushed at 7 years old to become a star. I just wanted to sing and then finally it happend in High School. I used to listen to rock music. My Idol was Freddy Mercury. So all I wanted to do was to sing rock music. But after I saw Lauryn Hill in Sister Act 2. I knew I wanted to make soul music. I love the vibe that comes from soul music.
Tell us about your song on the ‘Kindah’ collective
The song ‘Easy Ways’ was written after I moved to New York City (Bronx). I saw a lot of sad situations that made me feel really bad. Young guys died on the street because they just wanted to live the easy life…No school, no job, selling drugs, robbing people…Death was the result of their choice…If you choose the easy way, you will always realize that this is not the right way…Easy come , easy go!!!! Just believe in yourself, and you will be able to do a lot of good things in your life. If you want to be a teacher, lawyer, singer or writer? Just go for it no matter how hard it will be…You can make it, just believe in yourself and everything will be fine.
How did your environment growing up influence your music and style?
The environment has a very big influence on my music. My songs are created by emotions that me and my family and friends have experienced. I experienced a lot in the course of my life, by observing and learning from the ups and downs in my life …Making music is a process … The music styles grows with me … The more experiences I got, the better my music and my style became ….!
What/Who inspires u?
My mother, I thank my mother for her wisdom and how she has always believed in me and pushed me to become the best in everything that I do. The life inspired me.. Other Artists!!!
Why do u think it’s important to have Child Friendly Reggae?
Well, it is very important to share positive vibes and positive messages especially when it comes to children … Why shouldn’t we start to share the positive vibes with the children first. Children are our future and I think that music (reggae) is a very good opportunity to positively influence the children. Reggae music without profanity can give a positive message to a child and it could also be a tool for good childs development. Positive vibes mean positive thoughts! 🙂
What do u want to be remembered for? What will your legacy be?
I want to remembered for my good vibes and messages in my songs! Well many people are appreciating my songs already and that makes me feel very happy. Few days ago I got a message from a very nice man who told me that his mom has cancer which is always a very sad situation but he wrote that my songs made him feel good and gave him strength to take care of his mom…He was very positive and told me that he won’t give up the fight and him and his mom will both fight against the sickness. I want people to feel good about my music…I want them to have positive changes in their lives!!!
Where do you see yourself in ten years?
You never know what will happen in 10 years…I will be the female Bob Marley..(hehehehe, just kiddin’) Of course I want to make music because music was, is and will be always my life! But we will see!!!
What can we expect from you in 2012?
You can expect more songs , more live shows!!!
