Frederico Oliveira a.k.a. Freddy Locks is a rising force on the Reggae scene. His debut album “Bring up the Feeling” made history as the first record released on Indie/Reggae label Gumalaka. This single went on to be named album of the year by “Sunshine Reggae” and “Zona Reggae”. The accompanying video even saw rotation on MTV Portugal. “Bring up the feeling” is often referred to as an example of the evolution of reggae music coming from Portugal. Watch out world! Tell our readers a bit about yourself
I’m a reggae roots singer,songwriter,guitar player, peace and freedom fighter which use the reggae to express his honest feelings. I have 3 albums released till now and I play reggae since 1999. I’m Father of two beautiful children and work in a normal job, 8 hours per day, to survive in this babylon and still just do honest music from the heart.
Where are you from?
I’m from Lisbon, Portugal.
How would you describe your music?
Roots reggae, with heavy bass lines and spiritual and social messages.
How did you get started in music?
I started by playing guitar in a punk band when I was 17 years old as I was part of the 90’s punk movement in Lisbon. Some of my friends had bands and i started learning by myself and watching them.
Tell us about your song on the “Kindah” collective
Seek your Truth” is the song that also give the name for my last album, is a simple and strong song where the message is to be “truthful always”…its hard but is the only way to be alive.
What was your interest in being part of the Kindah collective?
My interest is to join forces with people of my spiritual tribe and also to spread my music along together with other brothers and sisters that I could never meet if it was not Kindah.
Why do you think it’s important to have music for children separate from music for adults?
This answer I can understand…Music is a spiritual thing…theres no ages for music…is a infinite thing.
What/Who inspires you?
Good people, Nature, Mistykal people like Che Guevara, Bob Marley and so on…
What do you want to be remembered for? What will your legacy be?
I want to be remembered as a honest person with good heart, someone that made music always and everytime to spread a positive feeling in all living things.
Where do you see yourself in ten years?
I can’t really do this exercise…to live the day…this must be..time and space can be so relative..
What can we expect from you in 2012?
I’m starting to create new songs for a upcoming new album and always playing live, singing and creating songs for other projects also.
